EMPLOYMENT

Toyota InfoTechnology Center USA, Mountain View, California.

As Research Manager, communicated with upper management in Japan and
USA to set the vision for my team, motivated them to do their best,
and applied open innovation by managing collaborations with
universities and companies in Silicon Valley to integrate innovative
technologies relevant to our parent company's core industry,
resulting in working prototypes that demonstrate concretely the
strategic benefits of our Silicon Valley office.

Prototypes and technologies included: driver status detection by
multiple sensor fusion; speech recognition using Statistical Language
Modeling, with an in-vehicle information system augmented by
detection of intent; driver danger level prediction based on
statistical models trained on lopsided data. This was chosen by our
parent company for demonstration at several levels all the way up to
Akio Toyoda.

As Senior Researcher in the Advanced Research Group, reported directly
to VP (Japan) and Senior Advisor (USA), recommending strategic new
business areas based on emerging technologies and new fields including
Health Care, energy management, and Navigation to optimize time and
multiple fuel resources for overall efficiency.

Our 4-person group was the most productive in our 30-person division
in terms of patents granted and papers accepted. Documented our work
monthly and presented yearly to top management - in English and in
Japanese, using Powerpoint, Word, and video presentations. Managed
Export Control and compliance for our group, negotiated IP and
contracts and executed agreements with each collaboration partner.

................................................................................

Stanford University & Dejima Inc., San Jose, California.

Negotiated and won contracts with Oracle and Toyota. Designed and
built mobile Speech Accessor to database query system for small
businesses. Used SRI Language Modeling software, Dynaspeak, and Agent
Technology from Dejima when their VP was Adam Cheyer who later founded
Siri.

................................................................................

 Nuance Communications, Menlo Park, California.

Software development in Dialog Research group, executing product
packaging and release. Evaluated software performance on applications
deployed using a cloud-based model. Used CGI and HTML to show results
in real time, and summarize automatically on corporate intranet for
on-demand presentation to top management

................................................................................

Advanced Telecommunications Research Laboratory, Seika, Kyoto, Japan.

Invited Engineer. 1995-1999. Managed multi-national team that designed, built
and deployed the ATR-MATRIX speech translation system that gained nationwide
news coverage, and was presented to the Japanese government at the Ministry
of Posts and Telecommunications. Resulted in 5 years renewed funding.

Technologies include Rapid Prototyping, tel/tk, C++, Python
................................................................................

Earlier experience:

Panasonic: novel techniques to guarantee quick response using Unix, C, Perl.
promoted to work at parent company Matsushita Central Research Lab in Japan.

Hughes Aircraft Co: obtained secret clearance. Hardware design spread spectrum
robust modem.

Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital: TTS/stenotype interface to enable
patients to speak naturally.
